The Breckenridge Cowboys opened the high school baseball season with a 4-3 win over West Central Area on Tuesday in Barrett, Minn.
Shortstop Hunter Feigum had two of the Cowboys’ six hits while Jack Aigner and Joe Skilbrend each drove in a run.
Carter Haugen got the start on the mound for the Cowboys and gave up four hits and three unearned runs in 6 2/3 innings of work. Luke Arnhald came on to get the last out for the save.
Wahpeton track goes indoors
The Wahpeton track and field teams took part in the Grands Forks Indoor Invite on Saturday.
The Huskies were fifth out of 14 teams while the Lady Huskies were seventh out of the 13 squads.
Corbin Cornelius, Riley Schmidt, Gus Lasch and Jared Bartels winning the 4×800-meter relay.
Corbin won the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches and was third in the triple jump at 37.6.
Bartels placed fourth in the 300 hurdles in 45.62 seconds.
Isaac Wohlers tied a personal-best mark of 11-6 in the pole vault to place third.
Emily DeVries was third in the 300 hurdles in 50.22
Magdalena Benton, Kilee Bladow, Jordyn Kahler and DeVries placed fourth in the 4×200 relay in 4:37.66.
Bladow was fourth in the high jump at 4-7.
Kahler was fifth in the high jump at 4-5.
Wahpeton athletes recorded 22 personal-best times or distances in the meet.
