Local sports roundup: Lady Huskies begin golf season

The fall high school sports season officially began Tuesday with the Wahpeton Lady Huskies competing in the 2019 East-West Golf Classic in Jamestown.

The tournament was shortened to one day due to wet conditions at Hillcrest Golf Course.

Wahpeton totaled 400 to finish 16th. Bismarck Century won the team title at 322 with Fargo Shanley second at 323.

Anaka Lysne led Wahpeton with an 85, good for a tie for 17th overall. McKena Koolmo was next with a 98, Madison Bohn shot a 102, Alayna Gilsrud 115 and Lily Anderson 116.

Wahpeton will host its invitational on Thursday at the Bois de Sioux Golf Course starting at 9 a.m.

Babe Ruth World Series reaches semifinals

Broomall-Newton, Penn., and Eagle Pass, Texas, advanced to the semifinals of the 14U Babe Ruth World Series with wins Tuesday.

Broomall-Newton topped West Linn, Oregon, 3-2 while Eagle Pass held off Jeffersontown, Kent. 7-6.

Eagle Pass plays Chandler, Ariz. At 4:30 p.m. in one semifinal Wednesday while Broomall-Newtown takes on Fort Caroline, Fla., in the other semifinal at 7 pm
