KBMW Wednesday Sports Roundup: Cowgirls win on the hardwood

Junior guard Jude Held scored 23 points and junior center Grace Conzemius added a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds as the Breckenridge Cowgirls beat Staples-Motley 59-48 Tuesday at Breckenridge High School.

The Cowgirls, 2-0 to start the season, scored the final four points of the first half for a 22-21 lead and never trailed in the second half. Breckenridge led by four points midway through the second half before sophomore Ana Erickson hit three straight 3-pointers for a 13-point lead. Erickson finished with nine points while Emma Ihland scored six.

The Cowgirls are on the road for two games this weekend, playing at Barnesville on Friday and against Grafton at D-G-F Saturday.



The Breckenridge Cowboys trailed 33-27 halftime en route to a 72-57 loss to Minnewaska Area Tuesday in the season opener for the Cowboys.

Adam Ohm and Cooper Yaggie led the Cowboys with 12 points each while Jonah Christensen had seven rebounds and Tyson Piechowski five.

Breckenridge will open the home schedule Saturday at 5 p.m. against Fergus Falls at Breckenridge High School.

The Wahpeton Huskies went 1-1 in a triangular at Grand Forks Red River on Tuesday. Wahpeton beat host Red River 50-24 and dropped a 48-31 decision to Devils Lake.

Wins for the Huskies against Devils Lake came from Kaleb Mostoller at 145, Wauker Spanel at 160, Logan Gjerdevig at 220, Josh Krump at 285, Hunter Owens at 125 and Shea Truesdell at 138.

Against Red River, wins went to Spanel at 160, Tanner Thiel at 170, Jackson Burchill at 182, Josh Krump at 220, Alberto Aguirre at 113, Bryace Awender at 126, Hunter Owens at 132, Truesdell at 138 and Mostoller at 145.

Wahpeton next hosts the Dan Unruh Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Wahpeton Middle School.



North Dakota State rallied from an early 16-point first-half deficit to take a 36-35 with just over 16 minutes to play, but couldn’t sustain that level of play and fell 71-60 at Indiana State on Tuesday.

Senior guard Vinnie Shahid paced the Bison (5-4) with 18 points. Rocky Kreuser posted 14 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double this season. Tyson Ward added nine points and seven rebounds



The Minnesota Wild rallied from a 2-0 deficit by scoring two goals in the second period and two in the third for a 4-2 road win at Florida on Tuesday.

The Wild are now 8-0-3 in its last 11 games.

Jason Zucker and Mats Zuccarello scored in the second period to tie the game and Carson Soucy game the Wild a 3-2 lead five minutes into the third period. Luke Kunin added an empty-net goal with a minute left for the final margin.
