HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL

Changes could be coming for Class 3A football teams

Fargo North, Fargo South, Grand Forks Central and Grand Forks Red River all could move down a class in N.D. football from Class 3A to Class 2A under the new guidelines for football classifications that were approved last week by the N.D. High School Activities Association.

There are options for schools to opt either up or down a division. However, No. Class 3A or 2A programs can opts down to Class A football.

The plan now has 11 teams in Class 3A and 11 in Class 2A. Those numbers could change depending on whether a team opts to change divisions.

Under the current rules, Class 2A football would be made up of Wahpeton, Fargo North, Red River, Fargo South, Jamestown, Watford City, Devils Lake, Fargo Shanley, Valley City, Bismarck St. Mary’s and Turtle Mountain.

One area school would be Class 1A in Milnor-North Sargent (which will be renamed Sargent County).

Tri-State, Wyndmere-Lidgerwood, Hankinson and Richland would remain in the 9-man ranks
