The Wahpeton 19U Senior Babe Ruth baseball team went 2-2 this weekend at the Joe Parmer Invitational in Fargo.
Wahpeton beat the Fargo Bombers 6-0 and Sioux Falls West 7-3, sandwiched in between a 10-2 loss to Stephen-Argyle and a 12-0 setback to Sioux Falls East on the final day.
Jake Uhlich got the win against Fargo on Friday with 6 innings of work, giving up 5 hits and striking out 6. Isaac Loosmore had 2 hits and an RBI for the offense.
On Saturday Loosmore did not allow a hit and struck out 11 in 5 innings on the mound in the win over Sioux Falls West. Hunter Wamre drove in 3 runs and Nick Thompson 2.
Wahpeton was held to 2 hits in Sunday’s loss to East.
Wahpeton is now 5-5 on the season and is scheduled to host Valley City in a doubleheader today starting at 4 p.m. at the Airport baseball field.
Breckenridge Sr. Babe Ruth sets schedule
The Breckenridge 19U Senior Babe Ruth baseball team will begin play on Tuesday after releasing a schedule over the weekend.
Breckenridge will play at Casselton Tuesday in one 7-inning game and one 5-inning game.
The current schedule lists 12 games with two of the doubleheaders being playing at John Randall Field on July 14 and July 23. Breckenridge was not cleared to play on its high school field this summer.
More games could be added as the season begins.
Wahpeton 15U Babe Ruth teams wins Fargo tournament
The Wahpeton 15U Babe Ruth baseball team went 4-0 this weekend to win the Fargo Invitational.
Wahpeton beat West Fargo 4-1, Detroit Lakes 15-2, Minnesota15U Friederichs 10-3 and Minnesota 14U Miracle 8-7 to win the title. Wahpeton is now 9-1 on the season.
Highlights for Wahpeton included Jayden King getting 3 hits in the opener, Josiah Hofman, Caden Kappes and Jackson Fliflet with 3 hits in the second win, Ethan Manock striking out 12 in getting the win against Fargo and Gavin Schroeder and Hofman driving in 2 runs each in the championship game.
