Parents with children turning 5 before August 1, 2012 need to register them for school.  Stop into Zimmerman Elementary School at 508 9th St N in Wahpeton. Parents are asked to bring their child's birth certificate or some other form of verification or date of birh. If you are unable to register at the school please call the school at 642-3050 and give the name and birth of your child. You may stop in at a later date.

St. John’s School is now registering students for the 2012/2013 school. Please call the school at 642-6116 with any questions or to make an appointment. All faiths are welcome!

The Optimists Twin Town Track Meet will be held on Thursday, May 17 at 4:30 p.m. at the OJ and Dee Jensen Track in Wahpeton.

The Jr. Wildlife Club will be having a scavenger hunt on Thursday, May 17 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Chahinkapa Zoo in Wahpeton.

The Dedication of Jackie’s Park at the Rosewood neighborhood in Northwest Wahpeton will be held on Friday, May 18 at 5:00 p.m.

Reserve your table for the Annual Community Rummage Sale at First Community Credit Union in Wahpeton on Friday, May 18th. Cost is $10.00 per table or bring your own table for free. To reserve at table please call 642-2020.

The monthly meeting of the Richland County Historical Society will be held on Monday, May 21 at 1:45 p.m. They will be touring the Wilkin County museum. Anyone wishing to attend please arrive at the Wahpeton Museum by 1:45 p.m. to be transported to the Wilkin County Museum.

The Wahpeton Public Schools will be dismissing early on Tuesday, May 22nd and Wednesday, May 23rd (the last day of school). Dismissal times for both days are: Zimmerman Elementary at 2:30 p.m., Central Elementary at 2:35 p.m., Wahpeton Middle School at 2:50 p.m. and Wahpeton High School at 3:00 p.m.

Sign up night for the MN Firearms Safety Hunter Education Class will be held on Tuesday, May 24 at 7:00 p.m. at the Breckenridge Fire Hall. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required by calling Cindie at 643-4374. Class and field day will be held on Saturday, July 14th. Class is open to ages 11 and up with priority given to those age 12 and older.

Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural DeLamere will have their Memorial Day Program on Monday, May 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church with lunch served following the program also at the church.

Southern Valley Health Watch will be having a Wildlife Walk on Saturday, June 2 at Chahinkapa Zoo Nature Center in Wahpeton. Registration will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and the 2 mile walk must be completed by 9:00 a.m.

The 2nd Annual Community Garage Sale will be held on Saturday, June 9th from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the lawn south of Harvest Outreach Church in Wahpeton. If you are interested in renting a table call Harvest Outreach Church in Wahpeton at 642-9445. Cost is $10.00 per table with proceeds benefiting the Three Rivers Crisis Center in Wahpeton and the Let’s Go and Company Puppet Team.

A Summer’s Night Tea and Silent Auction will be held on Tuesday, June 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Harvest Outreach Church in Wahpeton. Tickets are $2.00 and need to be purchased by Sunday, June 10 by calling 640-1776 to reserve your ticket. All proceeds will help further the work of the Project Night Light.

The Abercrombie Community Club and the Abercrombie Fire Department will be sponsoring their Annual Aber Day Celebration in Abercrombie on Saturday, June 23rd. Some of the events going on include a 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, Flea Market/Craft Show, Parade, Kiddie Pedal Tractor Pull, Inflatable Kids Games, Abercrombie Rodeo, Street Dance and much more!

Wilkin County Highway Department is announcing that all CSAH and County Roads are available on a first come first serve basis for haying. The county will begin top cut mowing no later than June 25 and fall cutting September 4. Mowers will not skip areas under any circumstances. No bales are allowed within 20’ of the road centerline and all bales must be removed within 48 hours. Out of courtesy please contact the adjacent landowners. Local AA and Alanon meetings are being held in the community. Tuesday’s Alanon meetings are for people with someone who has a drinking problem. All meetings are closed meetings except the monthly open District 11 Saturday meeting and the Tuesday night Alanon meeting. Closed meetings are for anyone that has a desire to quit drinking and open meetings are for anyone interested in finding out more about alcoholism. Richland County Communications/911 would like to remind all citizens in Richland County if they do not have a land line in their residence they should go to the Richland County website and enter their cellular information and address. The Richland County website is https://www.mylocalgov.com/richlandcountynd/WebDept.asp?key=24.  In the event of an emergency Richland County 911 Communications would utilize the CodeRED system to notify its residents of the emergency. The CodeRED early notification system can be used for child abduction, hazardous material spill, flooding, and any other emergency deemed fit.
