The Fairmount Fire Department was called out shortly after 6:00pm Sunday night to 110 3rd St North in Fairmount. A fire in the kitchen area of the house being rented by Jason & Lacy Koschney caused extensive smoke and water damage. Richland County Emergency Management director, Brett Lambrecht, tells KBMW NEWS, that the family escaped the fire along with one cat and a second cat was rescued by the fire crews. The family is staying with relatives in town and is being assisted by the American Red Cross. Richland County Sheriff’s department also responded to the scene. Fire crews were on the scene for about an hour.
