BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The North Dakota Department of Human Services says more than 2,700 Ward County residents were given nearly $500,000 in food assistance as part of a one-time benefit to
flood victims.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Tuesday that the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program assisted 1,089 households affected by flooding. The individuals receiving the aid
were not current program clients.
The program offered a one-time benefit to purchase food at grocery stores and other food vendors for those who experienced disaster-related losses and lived or worked in Ward County at the time of the disaster.
The USDA approved the department's original request to operate the disaster program from July 5 to July 13. The USDA extended the program to July 22 at the state's request.
