  • Here are the starting dates for Wahpeton High School athletics for the upcoming fall season. Girls golf (grades 7-12), August 5 with golf parents meeting at 6:30 p.m. at high school commons area on same day; Mandatory athletic director/parent meetings, August 11 and 18 (need to attend one of two meetings); Boys tennis (7-12) and cross country (7-12), August 12; Football, August 14; Girls swimming (7-12) and volleyball (9-12), August 19. Junior high volleyball and football will start when school starts.
  • The City of Wahpeton plans to ground spray for mosquito control on Wednesday, June 12. The application will run from 9 pm to midnight. If weather prevents spraying, the application will take place on the next possible evening. The mosquito control product used by the City is specifically designed for use in residential areas, and will not harm people, pets, or gardens.  However, citizens are advised to avoid walking or biking into the cloud emitted by the sprayer, and as an added measure of safety, may wish to remain indoors while the application is taking place.   • Someplace Safe of Wilkin County provides advocacy services to all persons who have been victims of domestic violence. This includes a 24 hour crisis line, assistance with legal issues, shelter and safe housing. All services to victims are free of charge and confidential.   • Friday Night New Open AA Recovery Meeting located in the basement of the Breckenridge Church will be held every Friday evening at 7:00 P.M. Please come in from the alley on the west side of the church. Call 640-9396 for more information.
  • Local AA and Alanon meetings are being held in the community. Tuesday’s Alanon meetings are for people with someone who has a drinking problem. All meetings are closed meetings except the monthly open District 11 Saturday meeting and the Tuesday night Alanon meeting. Closed meetings are for anyone that has a desire to quit drinking and open meetings are for anyone interested in finding out more about alcoholism.   • The Richland County Health Department will have Flu Shot Friday’s every Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the 2nd floor of the Wahpeton Law Enforcement Center.  Call 642-7735 with any questions.

  • The Richland County Health Department Family Planning Clinic offers education and information on birth control methods that meet their needs, STD testing and treatment available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Provider visits available by appointment the second Wednesday of every month.  Call 642-7735 to schedule.
