According to the National Weather Service, the Memorial Day storm that hit the Fargo-Moorhead area had three distinct tornadoes along with very powerful downburst winds.
Two of the tornadoes were rated EF-1 with wind speeds of 100 to 110 miles per hour. The third was an EF-2 with winds of 115 mph. The path of the storm system covered 12 counties stretching from southeast North Dakota into northwest Minnesota.
The National Weather Service has been surveying the path of damage and says the storm system may have spawned several more tornadoes as it moved into Minnesota.
