Spiritwood Homicide

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) - A Jamestown woman accused of killing a Somali refugee pleaded not guilty Monday in Southeast District Court.

Twenty-two-year-old Janelle Cave is charged with murder and conspiracy in the death of 18-year-old Abdi Ali Ahmed, whose body was found in a ditch near the small southeast North Dakota town of Spiritwood on April 30.

Authorities say Ahmed died of a head injury, and had stab wounds to his abdomen and rib cage.

Another suspect in the case, 34-year-old Leron Howard, of Jamestown, pleaded not guilty last week.

Cave and Howard are each being held on $450,000 bond. A trial date has not been set.

The charges carry a maximum penalty of life in prison without parole.
