Breckenridge Wins Sub-District



Breckenridge lived up to its top seed ranking by winning the American Legion Sub-District 9 South baseball tournament title on Sunday.

Breckenridge scored seven runs in the sixth inning to come from behind and beat Barnesville 7-3.

The game was delayed twice due to lightning.

Breckenridge will represent the South as the No. 1 seed in the district tournament scheduled to start Wednesday in Red Lake Falls. Barnesville will be the No. 2 seed.

Barnesville started the scoring with two runs in the second inning. That lead was maintained until the sixth.

With one out and the bases loaded in the sixth inning, when Breckenridge Center Fielder Stephan Erlandson hit a three-run double to give Breckenridge the lead.

Barnesville put together a scoring threat, loading the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning, but fell short by only pushing one run across the plate.

Prior to the championship game, Hawley defeated Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 9-6. The loss ends D-G-F’s season. Hawley advances to the district tournament.
