Number one seeded Breckenridge Post 53 defeated Stephen/Argyle 4-3 in the first round of the District 9 American Legion Tournament in Red Lake Falls.

David Bergquist pitched a complete game win, striking out 6 batters while walking 3 and giving up 4 hits.

Post 53 scored first in the bottom of the 2nd. With 2 outs, Stephen Erlandson doubled followed by a double by Zach Hegge and another double by Bobby Pauly. There was no additional scoring until the 5th inning when Stephen/Argyle scored one run.

In the bottom of the 6th Post 53 matched that run with a solo shot over the left field fence by Preston Kappes to make the score 3-1.

In the top of the 7th, Stephen/Argyle tied the game, scoring 2 runs. Breckenridge came back in the bottom of the 7th when Casey Materi walked, stole 2nd base and with two outs Robert Wanek hit a line drive to left field to score Materi for the win.

Post 53 plays Hawley Thursday afternoon at 3:00pm. Hawley defeated Ada in the opening round. Breckenridge took two from Hawley in the high school season and they split in the Legion season.
