FARGO, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota jury on Thursday found an Oklahoma man guilty of hiring his handyman to kill his former son-in-law.
Gene Kirkpatrick of Jones, Okla., was charged with conspiracy to commit murder for the October 2009 death of Fargo dentist Philip Gattuso.
Testimony lasted five days.
Prosecutors claimed Kirkpatrick paid Michael Nakvinda $3,000 to kill Gattuso because he didn't want him raising his granddaughter.
Kirkpatrick says it was "locker room talk" and he never had an agreement with Nakvinda.
The case went to the jury at noon Thursday.
The jury of six men and six women found Kirkpatrick guilty of a separate burglary conspiracy charge.
The 64-year-old Kirkpatrick faces life in prison without parole. Nakvinda was convicted in December of murder. He's serving life in prison.
