The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, cut outflow yesterday at White Rock Dam to zero due to rain on Sunday. White Rock Dam is part of the Corps' Lake Traverse project in Wheaton.
The Lake Traverse project is operated to keep Wahpeton below a flood stage of 10 feet during the summer. Due to a higher than average spring runoff and continued summer rains, Lake Traverse is 2.5 feet higher than normal and Mud Lake, also part of the Lake Traverse project, is 6.5 feet higher than normal.
Lake levels will rise in both lakes. Lake Traverse is currently at elevation 978.9 feet and is forecasted to climb more than half a foot by early next week barring additional rain.
