2nd Rapid City Officer Dies

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A second Rapid City police officer has died from injuries sustained in last week's shootout in the western South Dakota city.

Police Chief Steve Allender told the Rapid City Journal that 27-year-old Nick Armstrong died Sunday
at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Allender says the second-year officer had been fighting for his life but lost the fight.

Funeral services for the other slain officer, 28-year-old James Ryan McCandless, were held Sunday.

A third officer, 39-year-old Officer Tim Doyle, remains hospitalized. The alleged shooter was shot by police and died Wednesday.

Police have said the three officers approached 22-year-old Daniel Tiger and three of his acquaintances on a street Tuesday after receiving complaints about the group and determined a minor alcohol violation had been committed.
