Church Changes

WILD RICE, N.D. (AP) - Mick Pflugrath calls himself one of the newcomers at St. Benedict's Church of Wild Rice. And the 22-year parishioner feels that that the nearly 100-year-old Catholic church founded by French-Canadian settlers should stay right where it is. He points out such unique features
as stained-glass windows written in French and a circa-18888 pipe organ.

The Catholic Diocese of Fargo is proposing to move the parish as part of a reorganization plan that includes the merger of two parishes and opening of two new schools.

A diocese spokeswoman says said no final decision has been made about St. Benedict's, which has about 215 families.

Parish member Tom Kenville has offered to pay the priest's salary and membership at a local golf club to keep the church in Wild Rice.
