Suspect in Officer Death Moved

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A man charged with killing a Bismarck police officer has moved jails because of safety concerns.

Burleigh County authorities worked out an agreement to move 52-year-old Steven Bannister to Cass County Jail in Fargo. The transfer was reportedly made out of safety concerns for Bannister and jail staffers in Burleigh County.

Having Bannister in Cass County is also more convenient for his lawyer, who's based in Fargo.

Bannister has pleaded not guilty to the shooting death of Sergeant Steve Kenner. He was killed after he and another officer answered a call about a man threatening a woman with a knife.
