Medicaid System

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A new software program that will process North Dakota's Medicaid bills has been delayed again.

An executive told North Dakota legislators on Thursday that the project won't be done until the summer of 2013. It was supposed to be finished two years ago. Last year, lawmakers were told the project would be done in June 2012.

Medicaid is a medical assistance program that serves the poor and elderly.

The software problems have delayed payments to doctors, dentists and other medical providers who serve Medicaid clients. The software is being developed by a company called Affiliated
Computer Services Inc. of Dallas. It's part of a $62 million project. The state is paying $5.1 million.

ACS executive David Bywater apologized for the delay. But he says there's progress toward finishing the work.
