FARGO, N.D. (AP) - City leaders in Fargo have received an updated 100-year flood plain map from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
City engineers previously estimated that the map would bring an additional 7,500 homeowners into the newly defined 100-year flood plain of 39.5 feet.
Affected homeowners would be required to purchase high-risk flood insurance if they have federally backed mortgages.
FEMA began revising Fargo's flood plain more than a decade ago and has delayed the map's release for more than two years.
