BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A recommended redistricting plan for the North Dakota Legislature abolishes two rural districts, and establishes new districts in Bismarck and Fargo.
A legislative committee approved the plan Wednesday. The full Legislature will review it next month.
The plan pits some incumbents against each other. It puts Senate Democratic leader Ryan Taylor and former Democratic Senate leader David O'Connell in the same district. Republican Sens. Joe Miller of Park River and Curt Olafson of Edinburg are also in the same region.
Three incumbent Republican House members are lumped into a rural district in central North Dakota, and one Democratic House member and three Republicans are grouped in one northeastern district.
The plan keeps the existing number of 47 districts. Each is represented by a senator and two House members.
