American Crystal Lockout

FARGO, N.D. (AP) - A spokesman for American Crystal Sugar Co. says negotiations with representatives of locked-out union workers have not resulted in a major breakthrough.

American Crystal vice president Brian Ingulsrud says in a statement that union leadership has failed to adequately address certain issues and have no urgency in getting employees back to worker.

Ingulsrud said in a voicemail message to The Associated Press Tuesday afternoon that talks ended for the day. He didn't say if there are plans for further negotiations.

The contract dispute involves workers at sugar beet processing plants in North Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa. The factories have been running with replacement workers.

It's the second time the two sides have met since the Aug. 1 lockout.
