Lasting Harvest Plan

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The North Dakota Senate's Democratic leader wants to revive his proposal to draft a plan for using the state's oil tax collections.

Towner Sen. Ryan Taylor calls it the "lasting harvest" initiative.

It was defeated in the North Dakota Senate in February. Taylor says lawmakers could debate the idea again during the Legislature's special session next week.

Taylor's bill required the governor to hire a planning consultant and hold public meetings to develop a 20-year plan. It would focus on using oil money to encourage ongoing economic growth.

North Dakota House Republican Majority Leader Al Carlson of Fargo says there's no need to take up Taylor's bill now. Carlson says the special session's legislative agenda will be limited to disaster relief, legislative redistricting and a few other topics.
