FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Health officials are investigating whether food poisoning caused inmates at the Cass County Jail in Fargo to get sick.
Cass County Sheriff Paul Laney says the illness affected more than 150 of the 184 inmates at the jail. He says residents began showing flu-like symptoms after their Sunday evening meal.
No inmates were hospitalized and Laney says most of them were feeling better by Monday afternoon.
Laney says food service at the jail is provided by a Sioux Falls, S.D., company. He says the company has a good record and health inspectors have reported no violations.
Laney says the investigation will look into whether the illness was a result of an intentional act, or whether it was caused by something other than tainted food.
