The Minnesota State Patrol responded to several calls for service just after 8:00am on Wednesday.
Troopers responded to approximately four crashes and three jackknifed semis on I94 between exit15 (Downer) to exit22 (Barnesville) after being hit with freezing rain. Troopers had to shut down the freeway at those exits and divert traffic off the freeway in both east and westbound directions to safely respond and provide rescue services for the incidents.
Troopers' estimate approximately another 100 vehicles were stranded by jackknifed semis that were blocking the entire road.
MNDOT snowplows responded and provided sand and salt to target the ice covered freeway. No injuries were reported in all the crashes and incidents and the freeway was opened in both directions at 10:00am.
The Minnesota State Patrol was assisted by the Clay County Sheriff's Department and the Barnesville Police Department.
