FARGO, N.D. (AP) - An Iraq War veteran will receive a Purple Heart more than three years after he was wounded in combat.
North Dakota's congressional delegation announced Friday that Rusty Ouart will receive the medal.
Ouart suffered a traumatic brain injury from a mortar attack in 2008. The former firefighter joined the North Dakota National Guard in 2006.
Marilyn Ouart says her husband is disabled from his injury and she has taken over the family's office furniture business.
When under treatment for his injury, Ouart suffered kidney failure.
Last year, his home caught fire, killing the family of five's pet dog and leaving them temporarily homeless.
The delegation says Ouart and his family have never given up.
