MINOT, N.D. (AP) - A California man who came to Minot in 2011 to help remodel flooded homes is North Dakota's newest Texas Hold "Em champion
The Minot Daily News reports that Jeremy Keillor, of Santa Clara, Calif., outlasted a record 1,851 players at the North Dakota State Championship Poker Tournament held at the Vegas Motel.
The 8th annual tournament ended Saturday night after three days of elimination play.
Keillor's first-place finish was worth $42,500.
Runner-up Jeffery Thomas, of Columbus, Mont., earned $19,000. Virgil Olson, of Fort Ransom, N.D., took third to win $13,000, while Jason Conley of Minot took fourth to win $9,000. Fifth place went to Dale Zaun, of Fingal, N.D., who won $7,500.
The Minot State University Alumni Association uses the event to raise money for scholarships.
