PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - First Pierre, and then Sioux Falls, will transform into cities of mourning as hundreds are expected to descend on each to pay respects to former South Dakota Gov. Bill Janklow.
The 72-year-old Janklow, also a former congressman, died Thursday of cancer. His body arrived in Pierre about 8 p.m. Monday, carried in a flag-draped coffin into the state's Capitol building.
His body is to lie in state from 7-11 a.m. Tuesday, allowing mourners to file by. A memorial service is set from 1-1:45 p.m. at the Capitol.
Afterward, a gubernatorial motorcade is to travel the 230 miles from Pierre to Sioux Falls. Visitation begins at 6 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 6:30, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. The
church is also the site of Wednesday's 10:30 a.m. funeral.
