FARGO, N.D. (AP) - The University of North Dakota and North Dakota State are tied 1-1 in apologies for 2012.

University of North Dakota head women's basketball coach Gene Roebuck sent an email to NDSU president Dean Bresciani Tuesday to apologize for remarks Roebuck made at a UND booster luncheon last week.

Roebuck reportedly referred to NDSU fans as "racist blowhards," apparently in response to some NDSU fans and at least one player using UND's former Sioux nickname as part of chant that some consider offensive.

NDSU officials apologized for the incident, which occurred during a victory celebration for winning the Football Championship Subdivision title.
