BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - President Barack Obama has nominated North Dakota Public Service Commissioner Tony Clark for an opening on a federal regulatory board.
The Democratic president chose the Republican Clark on Monday for a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission opening that is reserved for a Republican.
The job requires Senate confirmation. The FERC has five members, and it can't have more than three members of any one political party. It already has three Democrats.
The federal commission regulates interstate oil and gas pipelines, electric transmission lines and sales of natural gas and wholesale electricity.
It oversees the reliability of the nation's electric grid.
Clark's second term on the PSC ends in December. He isn't running for re-election.
