Fargo Fatal Fire

FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Fargo fire officials say a 31-year-old man died of apparent smoke inhalation in an early morning apartment fire.

Crews arrived at the apartment around 12:45 a.m. Sunday and found a fire in the kitchen of a first floor unit. Firefighters knocked down the blaze within minutes and transported James Peyton to Essentia Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Fire officials say it appears that only a limited number of smoke detectors were in place, which may have contributed to delayed fire discovery.

The fire appears to have started in the kitchen but a specific cause is pending further investigation
