Heavy Snow Causing Roof Collapses
Juli Mauch Reporting
Wahpeton (KBMW NEWS) -- Recent heavy snowfall has been a major factor in area farm building collapses.

Significant snow-fall in recent weeks resulted in heavy build-up on the roofs of shops and machine sheds. In addition to the snow fall, ice buildup prevents the snow from sliding off the roofs. An inch of ice is equivalent to one foot of snow. It is likely the ice layer will not melt until spring, resulting in each additional snowfall intensifying the problem.
Richland County Extension Agent, Dale Siebert recommends double-checking your insurance policy. Sometimes roof failure due to snow is not covered on agricultrual buildings without a purchased rider.
