ND Crop Production Values Fall in '09

Bismarck, ND (KBMW News/AP)  -- The value of North Dakota crop production fell last year, down 17 percent from 2008 to $5.53 billion.

Those numbers released from the USDA, are calculated by multiplying the average price over the marketing year by the production.

The drop was from a year that the value of production set a record, mostly because of strong commodity prices early in 2008.  The production value was $6.69 billion in 2008.

Farmers in North Dakota last year produced their largest overall wheat crop in 13 years, but the value was reduced because of quality issues.
